Privacy Policy

Who is responsible
Skanlio is developed by Christian Knudegaard (Norway), who is the data controller for the app. Privacy questions can be sent via the contact form or to hello@skanlio.app.
What we collect
The app collects nothing. Skanlio does not send documents, images, text, usage statistics, crash reports or identifiers to us or to any third party. The app contains no third-party SDKs for advertising, analytics or tracking.
Data that stays on your device
The following is stored locally in the app and never leaves your device unless you share it yourself:
- Scanned pages and imported images and PDFs
- Recognized text, titles, tags and favorites
- Your reading position in each document
- Signatures you have drawn
- Settings such as language, voice and scan mode
This data is included in your device's regular backup (iCloud Backup or computer) if you have enabled it. Such backups are handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Permissions the app requests
- Camera and LiDAR: to photograph documents and measure how book pages curve. Images are processed on the device only.
- Photos and Files: Skanlio only gets access to the images and files you choose to import.
- Face ID / Touch ID: if you turn on the app lock. Authentication is performed by iOS – Skanlio never has access to biometric data.
- Personal Voice: if you want documents read aloud in your own voice. The voice is used on the device only.
Text recognition, read-aloud and translation
Text recognition uses Apple's Vision framework and read-aloud uses the system voices, both on the device. Translation uses Apple's built-in translation in iOS. iOS may download language models from Apple the first time a language is used. Translation itself is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Siri and Shortcuts
When you use Siri or Shortcuts with Skanlio, titles and text from your documents may be made available to these features on your device, for example so Siri can read a document aloud. This is handled by iOS.
Purchases
Purchases of Skanlio Pro are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, email or payment details – the app is only told whether you have an active purchase.
Sharing and export
When you share a document as a PDF, text or image, you decide where it goes. What you send is then handled under the terms of the app or service you share it with.
When you contact us
The contact form and our email address are the only places we receive personal data. When you send a message, we receive your email address, your name if you provide it, the message and, if the form was opened from the app, the app version and device type (filled in automatically).
- Purpose: only to reply to you and resolve your request. The legal basis is your consent and our legitimate interest in providing support (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and (f)).
- Who processes the data: the website and form are hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA), and messages from the form and to hello@skanlio.app are forwarded to our email account at Google. Both act as processors, and transfers outside the EEA rely on the safeguards required by data protection law, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
- Retention: messages are deleted when the matter is closed, and at the latest after 12 months.
- You can ask for access to or deletion of a message you have sent at any time.
Deleting your data
Delete individual documents in the app, or delete the app from your device to remove everything. Since we hold no copy, there is nothing on our side to delete.
Children
Skanlio does not collect information from anyone, including children.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification and erasure, and you may lodge a complaint with the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) or your local authority. Apart from messages you have sent us yourself, we hold no information about you. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will publish the new version here with a new date. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
